Ann Altmeyer (April 24, 1934- Jan. 9, 2021). Loving mother and grandmother, supportive wife, initiator, teacher, listener, sports enthusiast, traveler. Ann loved so many things…. perhaps most of all to be with and listening to her family, enjoying their lives with them, occasionally offering really sound and practical parental advice (even if we didn't want to hear it). Ann, while outwardly kind and gentle, had a fierce internal drive. In the early 1970s, despite having three teenage children, she decided to go back to school, first for her Master's degree and then a PhD in Public Health Administration from Syracuse's Maxwell School. She became an accomplished professor at SUNY Brockport where she taught for many years and was revered by her colleagues and students. She authored and published numerous articles and studies. Ann loved meeting new people and was a great conversationalist. She had the innate ability to really focus on you and the conversation at hand. Ann also loved to travel and made many trips all over the U.S. as well as around the world to see and experience it in new ways (Ireland, Turkey and Switzerland, to name a few). She rarely said no to trying a new sport or adventure; roller skating at Golden Gate Park, sailing on Cazenovia Lake or the mighty Atlantic (well, maybe it was only Scituate Harbor), and most enjoyably skiing at the Cazenovia Ski Club, in Colorado with the family, or in the Alps. Finally, Ann absolutely loved being with her family. Over her 59 years of marriage to Jack, they constantly challenged one another and really enjoyed each other's company. She took great pride in her three children John, Mark and Susie and totally embraced being a grandmother to her eight grandchildren (Sydney, Kalyn, Jack, Jesse, Scott, Jordan, Max and Melanie). Ann lived a long and fulfilling life from many aspects. May she rest in peace. A private family service will be held this summer.
