Basil H.
Conway
June 23, 1945 – May 13, 2026
Basil H. Conway, 80, of Fabius, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2026 surrounded by the memories of a life rooted in family, hard work, and the countryside he loved so dearly. He was born June 23, 1945 to Basil and Helen Cook Conway and raised on the family dairy farm. Basil grew up in the Fabius area and attended Fabius-Pompey School.
From boyhood on, Basil loved horses and proudly embraced the spirit of a cowboy. He found joy in hunting deer, playing cards with friends and family, and spending time outdoors. Over the years, he worked many jobs, including serving as a heavy maintenance technician at SUNY Morrisville.
Basil was devoted to his family, especially his daughter, Erika (Dan Whaley) Eddy of Cazenovia, New York, whose love meant so much to him. He is also survived by his grandson and namesake, Basil Eddy; his devoted granddaughter, Tiffany (Michael) DeBarr; and his great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Annabelle, and Ariel, all of Ohio. He also leaves behind his beloved sister, Marjorie Conway (Thomas) Berrigan, of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
Basil was predeceased by the love of his life, Dora “Dede” Haefele, whose companionship brought him great happiness. He was also predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, James and Judy Conway.
Basil will be remembered for his quiet strength, his love of country life, his devotion to those he loved, and the simple pleasures that brought him happiness. His family and friends will forever cherish the stories, laughter, and memories he leaves behind.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Private graveside services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Fabius. Contributions in Basil’s memory may be made to a Wildlife Conservation agency of one’s choice. Condolences for the Conway family may be shared at www.michaelebrownfuneralservices.com.
