Edward William “Ed” Jones, 64, passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. Born in Syracuse on May 3, 1962, he was a lifelong resident of Cazenovia, NY. He graduated from Cazenovia High School in 1980.

His great-grandfather, Henry Jones, had a farm on Thomas Road. Though no longer farmed, the barn is still standing. His grandfather, William Jones, decided he wanted to go into farming as well and purchased the farm on Ballina Road in Cazenovia in 1935.

Upon graduation, Ed worked alongside his father full time from 1980-1994, becoming the third generation to operate Jonesville Holsteins in Cazenovia. He became the sole owner/operator in 1994-2006. Not only did he milk approximately 80 head, he also planted and harvested 300 acres of oats, corn, and grains. Although they didn’t have names, Ed said he could recognize each individual cow.

After farming, he was employed for a time at Automatic Utilities. From there, he was a crew leader at Proscapes, doing landscaping and snow plowing. In July of 2018, he joined the workforce at Kinsella Quarries in Fayetteville. He looked forward to going to work each day because of the humor and camaraderie he and his colleagues shared. He also appreciated their tremendous compassion when his wife passed away in 2025.

He is survived by his daughter Madison Jessica Jones of Canton; his father, Harlan Jones; his sisters, Cathy Griffin and Linda Jones; his niece, Peggy (Robert) Downing; nephew, Ian Griffin, and several great-nieces and great-nephews. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 30 years Melissa (Kimball) Jones and by his mother, Margaret “Margie” Jones.

Services will be private. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Heart Association online at www.heart.org. Condolences for the Jones family may be shared at www.michaelebrownfuneralservices.com.
