Frank M. Hyatt, 75, of Fenner passed away Friday, July 3, 2026. Frank lived wide open, anchoring his life in family, a very strong faith, and a relentless grit. Though a 1968 Cazenovia High School graduate, his true education happened out in the real world.
Frank grew up on Fenner's Hi-Hat Farm, though dairy farming wasn’t his calling—unless it served as an alibi. Lore tells of a young Frank outrunning the police on backroads, tearing into the barn, and instantly milking cows before the flashing lights arrived.
That need for speed defined him. Known as "Crash," Frank drag raced, drove at Utica-Rome Speedway, and worked the track for 20 years. A massive Dale Earnhardt fan who lived by "rubbing is racing," he hit Watkins Glen annually since 1986 and rode his Harley since the 70s.
Frank climbed telephone poles from New York to Louisiana, installed cable in almost every Cazenovia home, and served as Fenner Highway Superintendent from 1998 to 2015. He could fix anything, helped anyone instantly, and hand-built his cabin with his childhood best friend, Rich Coe.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Terri Hyatt; his children, Jim Shenandoah (Linda Smith), Mike Shenandoah (Nicole Nardi Shenandoah), Jennifer Hyatt (Rob Moore), Amy Lyn Miller (Matt Miller), and Jason Hyatt (Kelly Hyatt). He is also survived by his first wife, Lorraine Riedl, and second wife, Doreen Ramaglino. Frank was the proud grandfather to Joshua, Jasper, and Abel (Amy’s children), and Jayce, Caleb, Luke, and Ava (Jason’s children), as well as his great-grandson, Covan. He is also survived by his brother, James Hyatt, and his nieces and nephews, Aaron, Libby, and Jessica. He was predeceased by his brother, Hobbie.
Frank loved well and played hard. His stories will live on in garages and grandstands for years to come.
Calling hours are 3 to 7 p.m., Friday, July 10, 2026 with a remembrance service to follow all at Michael E. Brown Funeral Services, 2333 Fenner Road in Cazenovia.
