Janet Lela (Wright) Tanner, 99, of Alachua, Florida passed away peacefully Thursday, August 6, 2026 with her family by her side. She was born March 4, 1927 in Syracuse to William and Martha Wright. Janet was a graduate of Eastwood High School, attended Oswego College and Comptroller school. She was the bookkeeper at the family business, Lewis and Tanner Paints for 25 years, also employed in retail sales and as a library assistant.

       Known for her fun-loving nature, kindness, and generosity, Janet had a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious laugh. She loved to sing and dance, often dressing up in beautiful clothes and jewelry. Janet delighted in spending time with her family and friends and she cherished her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

       Janet is survived by her children, Patricia (Paul) Belodoff of Round Rock, TX, Walter Tanner of Syracuse and Joan Pearson of Alachua, FL; four grandchildren, Jacqueline (Bradley) Hubbard, Erin (Ryan) Ward, Brandon Moore and Jarrod Moore; five great grandchildren, Luke Hubbard, Anna Hubbard, Emerson, Charles and Thomas Ward as well as nine nieces and nine nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her twin sister, Jeanne Valenti; her brother, William Wright; her sisters, Martha Miller and Elizabeth Redmond.

       Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, August 14, 2026 at Michael E. Brown Funeral Services, 2333 Fenner Road in Cazenovia. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Cazenovia. A calling hour will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home prior to the service. Contributions in Janet’s memory may be made to the USO online at uso.org.
