Kevin Hunt Davies, 81, of Fenner, NY, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2026. Born March 1, 1945 in Syracuse to D. Fay and Joyce Boxell Davies, Kevin was raised on a dairy farm where he came to deeply appreciate rural independence, the working landscape, faith, altruism, and deep family values.
He was a graduate of Cazenovia High School, Class of '63. Kevin continued his education at Asbury College, earning his Bachelor's degree in 1967, followed by one year of graduate school from Asbury Seminary in 1968. He proudly served his country enlisting in the U.S. Army in July of 1968, assigned to Army Intelligence until his honorable discharge in July of 1971 with the rank of Sergeant.
Kevin dedicated 28 years of his career to the City of Oneida, as the Director of Parks and Recreation until his retirement in 2001. His commitment to service extended beyond youth and senior services, community athletics and outdoor recreation including as an active member of the Rotary Club of Oneida. Kevin was a New York State certified soccer official for over 30 years. He was a core founder of the Oneida City Youth Court as well as a volunteer for many organizations serving Central New York. Upon returning to the community of his upbringing in 1998, he participated in the Erieville-Nelson Heritage Society and the Cherry Valley Carriage Association. Kevin enjoyed tending to his roses, attending auctions, celebrating rural history and collecting antiques including an impressive cross-section of American and international glass milk bottles. The younger Kevin read about Sociology, played golf left-handed, rode a motorcycle, listened to vinyl, kept tropical fish and learned French horn. He was most content however, up on a tractor, helping neighbors, and in the company of family.
Kevin is survived by his dearest wife of 55 years, Sonia (Sadoff) Davies; his son, Kyle (Cady) Davies of Friday Harbor, WA; his daughter, Erin (Christian) Baillie of Lancaster, PA; his siblings, Randy (Suzann) Davies of Cazenovia, Charlotte (Manuel) Lanseros of Tully, and Thomas (Cheryl) Davies of Cazenovia; along with four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and five nieces and two nephews.
A Celebration of Kevin’s life will be held at a later date. Contributions in Kevin's memory may be made to CAVAC, 106 Nelson St., Cazenovia, NY 13035.
