Martha Hartnett McNamara Druke, 93, of Cazenovia, NY, passed away on October 7, 2026, after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on August 1, 1933, in Rutland, Vermont, she was the daughter of Clara M. (Gillespie) McNamara and John F. McNamara. Martha was one of thirteen children, and her family was close. In the years after the Depression, with so many mouths to feed, she worked to help keep them together, babysitting and helping clean houses, while excelling in school. She told heartfelt stories about growing up in "The Burg" as one of the infamous McNamara Clan.
Martha graduated from St. Mary's High School in Ogdensburg, New York, in 1951, where she was captain of the cheerleading team, a member of the choir, and well-liked by her classmates. She went on to graduate with honors from Fanny Allen School of Nursing in Colchester, Vermont, earning her Diploma in Nursing in 1954. It was there that she met her future husband, John C. Druke, a student at nearby St. Michael's College, who was introduced by his sister Terry, who was a year behind Martha.
Martha worked at the Rome and Oneida hospitals, nursing homes, and in private duty settings. She enjoyed antiquing with her husband, John, and most of all spending summers with the family at their camp on White Lake in the Adirondacks. Martha navigated life as a military spouse, raising her five children and helping with her grandchildren, whom she adored. She was a true caregiver on a moment’s notice for friends and family in need.
Martha was predeceased by her husband, John C. Druke; her parents; and nine siblings: Bernard (Bub) McNamara, David McNamara, Douglas McNamara, Doris (Dode) McNamara Thabault, James McNamara, John (Jack) McNamara, Nancy McNamara Lenney, Richard McNamara, and Robert McNamara. She is survived by her twin brothers, Daniel and Donald McNamara; her youngest brother, Michael McNamara; her children, John M. Druke, Carmen Druke, Suzanne (Druke) Sprague, Lisa Druke, and JoAnne (Bruce) Race; and her grandchildren, Justin, Galen, and Elizabeth Druke; Ian and Ari Druke; Shannon (Peter) Gibby and Aaron (Bella) Sprague; and Cormac, Hannora, and Cassia Race. She also leaves a great-grandson, Henry Gibby, and more than 50 nieces and nephews.
A calling hour will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., both at St. James Catholic Church, 6 Green Street, Cazenovia, New York on Monday, October 12, 2026, with Father Kevin Corcoran officiating. Burial will be held at Woodgate/White Lake Cemetery, Woodgate, New York at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Lucy’s Church, 432 Gifford St, Syracuse, New York 13204.
