Maurice W. Johnson, Jr., 65, of Cazenovia, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2026. He was born in Ogdensburg on September 18, 1960 to Gladys J. Aldrich Johnson and Maurice W. Johnson, Sr. and was a graduate of Mexico Academy, Class of 1980. Maurice had a strong work ethic and took pride in everything that he accomplished. He was a Master Carpenter and a member of the Carpenters Local 277, Syracuse. Through the union, he was employed for 9 years at the Henderson Johnson Company in Syracuse. He retired from Cazenovia College where he was employed in their maintenance department.

       Maurice enjoyed joking, laughing and was known for his easy going, positive attitude. He was a caring man who always protected those around him. Maurice loved the outdoors and spent much of his free time hunting, fishing and playing golf. He was an avid fan of the Washington Commanders and Syracuse University basketball and football. Woodworking was another passion he enjoyed throughout his life.

       In addition to his parents, Maurice was predeceased by his fiancé, Dale Hanson. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Emmanuel J. and Kate Johnson of Bridgeport; his daughter, Danielle M. Bassett of Weeki Wachee, Florida; his sister, Sandra Johnson of Oswego; his brother, Marvin Johnson of Syracuse; six grandchildren, Darien, Riley, Lily, Chloe, Hadley and Ethan; three great grandchildren, Charlie, Jaxon and Rue; two nephews, Justin and Joseph; his fiancé’s daughters, Heather and Shelby Hanson.

       Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, October 17, 2026 with services to follow at Michael E. Brown Funeral Services, 2333 Fenner Road in Cazenovia.
