Roger Owen Davenport, 88, of Cazenovia, New York passed away on May 23, 2026, surrounded by the legacy of a life well lived, a family deeply loved and a country faithfully served.

He was born on December 3, 1937 and graduated from Onondaga Valley Academy in Syracuse, New York in 1956. Roger went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Navy, retiring in 1975 after 22 years of dedicated service with the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. During his naval career, Roger served multiple tours of duty in Vietnam, demonstrating courage, commitment and devotion to his nation. In 2019, Roger was honored to take part in the Rochester Honor Flight.

Following his military service, Roger continued his strong work ethic and leadership as a plant foreman at Stickley Furniture in Manlius, New York, where he worked for 25 years before retiring in 2000. A master craftsman and refinisher of fine wood furniture, Roger found great joy in working and creating in his woodshop. His skill, patience and eye for quality were evident in everything he made and restored.

Roger was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Ruth Stearns Davenport, and by his brother, Robert Davenport.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife Judith Davenport. Roger and Judy were high school sweethearts and shared 67 years of happy marriage. Their love was a beautiful example to all who knew them. They enjoyed spending time with their growing family, taking Sunday drives throughout the countryside, attending local auctions and they could often be seen holding hands whenever they walked together.

Roger is also survived by his sister, Ruth Davis; his three children, Roger (Ed), Glenn (Michelle) and Kathy (Jeff); five grandchildren, Chad (Emily) Davenport, Ty (Amanda) Zelinsky, Lindsey (Mike) DeLuca, Micala Zelinsky and Timothy Davenport; six great grandchildren, Rowan Zelinsky, Daisey Davenport, Bennett Zelinsky, Olivia Zelinsky, Vincenzo DeLuca and Brooks Davenport.

Roger will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his steady hands, his quiet strength, his service to his country and his service to his community. He was a proud and active volunteer in New Woodstock, giving his time to the fire department, the American Legion, his church and the library. Roger and Judy lived in their family home in New Woodstock for 50 years, where they raised their family and created a lifetime of memories. In true Roger fashion, he also built a large kitchen addition to the home from the ground up, even digging the cellar by hand, one bucket at a time. His life was one of dedication, craftsmanship, loyalty, service and love. His memory will remain a treasured blessing to all who knew him.

In keeping with Roger’s wishes, he donated his body to medical science. There are no services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Roger’s memory to Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital, c/o the Upstate Foundation, 750 East Adams St., Syracuse, NY 13210.
